EU Commission Reality Check on eprivacy & ID side state of the art Tech
24 Sep 2025

On September 15, ID side had the opportunity to participate in the European Commission’s expert discussion on reforming Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.
EU Commission's Omnibus checks are carried out under DG Connect lead and assess options around cookie banners and digital consent. The idea is to depart from current complex legal & regulatory framework, in which no Member State would have the same understanding, interpretation nor implementation of applicable rules. The "ideal" outcome woudl be that such down-to-earth and practical reflexion simply gets rid of burdens on both businesses (high compliance costs) and users (repetitive banners and eroded trust).
Commission’s push to rethink consent requirements and promote privacy-enhancing technologies is there and t aligns perfectly with ID side mission. So, it was great that we were listed in the dozen contributors specifically asked to provide insights. We specifically contributed to the discussion about consent simplification through the forward-thinking and pioneering data protection engineering(the PETs -Privacy-Enhancing Technologies- everyone talks about).
At a time when US and India already moved things forward, it might be the last critical step (after the eprivacy regulation dramatic failure and the cookie pledge initiative bankrupt) taken by EU Commission toward addressing cookie consent fatigue in the EU.
ID side state of the art solutions help creating a more transparent & user-friendly digital environment. And we are excited to showcase how our Tech could substantially support this reform.
