What is the Light Web?

9 June 2023

Put simply, what we do is enabling each of us to enjoy a Web in which there is an alternative to 24/7 commercial tracking, what our team calls 'the Light Web'. The Light Web is a Web promoting:
  • a more transparent & streamlined processing of our browsing data (e.g. internet users do not need data brokers and 24/7 commercial tracking to flag their individual interests at a time – i.e. I want to buy a sofa this week – or to foster a trusted relation with the brand they have an interest in, like or trust – i.e. any news from Chanel or Adidas is relevant to me),

  • under users' direct control (e.g. I can set my by-default choices regarding cookie banners – i.e. OK with analytics but not commercial ones – and those follow me wherever I browse – so that I do not have to fill cookie banners again and again),

  • enhancing ethically and environmentally sustainable business models (e.g. because we promote user control and strengthen the exercise of their digital fundamental rights in practice, we foster a web in which less data is collected, stored, and aggregated – i.e. less data means less storage capacity needed, fewer servers… and overall less pollution).
