CCPA legally advances individual control automated signals

2nd of February 2019

On 28 June 2018, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was adopted. It includes provisions on individual control for opting out of commercial tracking. Its mere existence demonstrates the capacity of lawmakers and data protection regulators to provide individuals with a legal right to control their privacy online using automated signals. It is also an evidence for the ID side project that its tool is a way forward. The same way CCPA empowers consumers to have more control over their personal information in the US, EU law will soon enough put EU citizens in capacity to benefit from such rights. As such, CCPA constitutes an international legal landmark. For ID side teams, it constitutes THE "Legal Square 1" to advance digital fundamental right to Privacy in practice.
